Registration of address
Important information
Any person who moves into a residence in Ostfildern must register the address of that residence in person at the registration authority, within two weeks of moving in.
In cities where the administration has automated the register of residents, it is not necessary to fill out a registration form. The registration authority records your information, and prints it out for you. By signing this document, you confirm that the information on it is correct.
Your landlord is required to provide written confirmation that you have moved in. Within the legally stipulated two-week period after moving into the residence, you must obtain this so-called landlord’s confirmation of address (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung), and present the original document to the registration authority during the registration process. The presentation of a lease will not satisfy this requirement.
During the registration process, you will have the opportunity to, under certain conditions, block the transmission of your personal information and its release in response to requests for information; please see this form.
Special requirements apply regarding the registration of, or change of, address for minor children: If in the future, the two people who have legal custody of a child will no longer be sharing a common residence with that child, or if the child’s main residence or only residence will shift from one custodial parent to the other, the custodial parents must file a declaration of consent; please see this form.
For other forms pertaining to registration of address, and for information on Art. 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation for people who are required to register their place of residence, please see the link at the bottom of this page.

If you have more than one place of residence, and you spend most of your time in a secondary residence, you must register a change of primary address within two weeks.
