Issuing invitations to foreign nationals

People who plan to host foreign nationals who will be coming from a country whose citizens need a visa in order to enter Germany must sign a Statement of Obligation  at the Aliens Authority (Ausländerbehörde). In so doing, the host pledges to ensure that the visiting foreign nationals will not impose costs on the German government during their stay.

Documents required

The following documents are needed in order to issue an invitation:

• Application for the issuing of a Statement of Obligation (please see link below)
• Personal identity card or passport
• Proof of income for the previous three months
• Proof of available living space (lease, or purchase agreement)

Cost

Payment via bank card (“EC”) is requested.

The fee for the invitation is 20 euros.

After 17:30 daily, it is not possible to process invitations (Statements of Obligation) or applications for electronic residence permits, since these processes are very time-consuming.
